Sposumer in Korea

Sposumer(Sports+Consumer)'s Blog

Globally ‘green house effects’ are inevitable, but I wish Korean definite four seasons lasts forever.

Even though my pray, in these days I feel Korean climate is getting warmer and warmer.

So, I recommend upcoming October races in Korea.

(If you have your own long term plan over 6 months, you must wait until 2011 March.)

I reviewed upcoming races in October and November in Korea as below.

1. 2nd Energizer Night Race

- Date / Venue: Oct. 2, 2010 7 p.m. / Seoul Grand Park(Gwacheon)

- Distance / Entry Fee(Unit: KRW): 5, 10K / 30,000

- Limits: 7,000 people

Since last year, the race has organized by Energizer. It is a night race so, the organizer distribute head lamp to participants. Consider the distance, it is one of fun run race, but you must be careful if you have a night blindness. Also if your eyes are normal, watch out others’ foots during the race.

2. 8th Hi! Seoul Marathon

- Date / Venue: Oct. 10, 2010 8 a.m. / Seoul City Hall Plaza

- Distance / Entry Fee(Unit: KRW): 10K / 20,000, Half & Full / 30,000

- Limits: 10,000 people

The start area is Seoul City Hall. This is the only race uses Seoul City Hall as a start area excluding Seoul International Marathon. Because of the race is organized by Seoul Metropolitan Government and Dong-a Ilbo. So, participants can run around Seoul City Hall and Seoul Central. But, the course is not perfect. I ran at once the race and I felt the wide of the course is a little narrow. Especially if you don’t have any race experiences or prefer a fun run, the race is not optimal choice. The number of half and full Course participants always exceeds 10k participants.

3. 2010 Pink Ribbon Marathon

- Date / Venue: Oct. 10, 2010 8:30 a.m. / Yeouido Park

- Distance / Entry Fee(Unit: KRW): 5, 10K / 10,000

- Limits: 8,000 people

Actually, the race title sounds a little weird. It is a just 10K charity run. All entry fees will be donated to breast cancer foundation. If you are a male runner, overwhelming female runners make you shy. But if you find a fun run race that can be suitable for your girl friend, the race can be the right one. Every women love the pink race day tee!

4. Chosun Ilbo Chuncheon Marathon

- Date / Venue: Oct. 24, 2010 10 a.m. / Chuncheon

- Distance / Entry Fee(Unit: KRW): Full / 40,000

- Limits: 20,000 people

It is my favorite full course race in Korea. In spite of Seoul International Marathon has a better level (Gold level race authorized by IAAF), I just love the race course in Chuncheon. Sometimes I ran the race course in Seoul, I had to bear spectators’ yelling who are unhappy with traffic controls. But Chuncheon race course consists of various landscapes, especially lakes and spectators also love the race held in their home town. A year ago, new express way to Chuncheon is opened, so Chuncheon is not far away from Seoul. Almost every year, I have tried to join the race!

5.   Joongang Seoul Marathon

- Date / Venue: Nov. 7, 2010 8 a.m. / Jamsil Sports Complex

- Distance / Entry Fee(Unit: KRW): 10K, Full / 40,000

- Limits: 24,000 people

Jamsil Sports Complex was built for 1988 Seoul Olympic, so all Korean have a sweet memory related to the stadium. If you dream to run at the Jamsil Main Stadium, the race is the right answer. But, I think 10K entry fee is relatively expensive.

Richard Branson(Chairman of Virgin Group) is one of my favorite marketers.

Recently I read his book, “Business Stripped Bare(비즈니스 발가벗기기)” .

At the end of the book, I met this poem and was very impressed.

IF

Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;

If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;

If you can meet with triumph and disaster

And treat those two imposters just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,

And stoop and build ‘em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings

And never breath a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch;

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;

If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run -

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And – which is more – you’ll be a Man my son!

세계적인 러닝 전문지인 러너스 월드(Runner’s World) 2010년 6월호 I’m a Runner 코너에는

From the June 2010 issue of Runner's World

I got a Nike Plus and after my first run with it I was like, “Oh, that’s all I ran? I gotta do more.” Now, I’m obsessed with doing better each time.

My pace is just under 10 minute miles, but I don’t care. It’s much more enjoyable if I’m not straining to go faster.

Once you promise [on twitter] that you’re going to run this weekend, then people who follow you will say, “So how’d it go?” It’s enough pressure to get you going.

Say I tweet that I ran today. If it reaches another runner, like my friend who invites me to join his trail-running group, that seemingly invaluable piece of information becomes something valuable.

On my playlist? Right now it’s the Eagles “Hotel California” I don’t know how it got there, but it really doesn’t matter what the song is; it’s the pace of it.

I run along Richardson Bay[in  Larkspur, California]. There’s something about running near a large body of water that feels like you’re drawing some energy from it.

The experience of running on trails always makes me feel like I’m going faster – trees and pebbles rushing by me. But there’s also something to seeing this lone pathway ahead of you, you know?

I think I’m ready to tackle a half-marathon. Recently I set out for a six-mile run and found myself at mile 15 still feeling pretty strong.

An athlete friend said, “As long as you’re moving forward, don’t worry.” That was good advice for me. It doesn’t make me feel like I’m giving up when I slow down.

When I was a kid[in Wellesely, Massachusetts], I’d climb a tree in our yard to watch the Boston Marathon. Running it would be awesome, but qualifying is serious deal.

We’re thinking about a weekly Twitter staff run. You connect so much better when you get out of the office.

A lot of people go out for drinks, but going for a run would be much healthier.

<Source: From the June 2010 issue of Runner’s World;

I’m a Runner Biz Stone (Cofounder, Twitter, Inc.  36, San Francisco California)>

http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-243-410–13497-0,00.html

“Running is simple, but there’s opportunity if you want to go deeper. I guess I’m drawn to simplicity.”

2010 K-League already began in the end of Feb.

Total 15 club teams joined the league and

I figured out how many sports brand did sponsor the teams.

14 sports brands were the apparel sponsor of K-League teams.

That means almost every team sponsored by different teams.

Only Adidas Korea supports 2 club teams; FC Seoul & Suwon Samsung.

I think increasing the number of sponsors doesn’t mean getting better the popularity of K-League.

K-League clubs and administration office must think over what does that mean.

Yes!  Kim Yu-na Wins Gold in Figure Skating.

Her popularity in Korea might be behind your imagination.

(태릉=전준엽기자 noodle@sportschosun.com)
<A lots of reporters rushed into Kim Yu-na participated in the ceremony of disbanding of  21th Vancouver Winter Olympics National Team>

Now, she is the queen of Korea advertising field.

About 20 brands are related to her and her ads really works to boost clients’ sales!

I just imagine ‘One Day in the Life of Kim Yu-na’.

Yu-na got out bed. She pick ‘Icis’ in the refrigerator and drank a cup of water.

She worn Nike training wears cleaned with Saffron and pack up her figure skating boots and P&G Whisper.

She put on makeup with Lacvert foundation and CathyCat mascara and worn J.ESTINA ear rings.

She took the wheel of Tucson IX to go the ice rink.

Before wearing her figure skating boots, she attached 3M Nexcare bandages on her heel to prevent blisters.

She began her work out with the music from ‘Fairy on the ice’ compact disc.

She diverted herself in singing HaHaHa song during short breaks and ate Kim, Yu-na breads, Maeil dailies milk and yogurt for snacks.

After completed her work out, she changed into QUA Kim, Yu-na T-shirts and jeans.

She made a phone call from her mobile phone, Anycall, to her friend.

She withdrew some cash from KB bank ATM and bought a sheet of lottery ticket for fun.

She took out a cup of Yuna smoothie from Smoothie King on the way back home.

After returning home, she turn on Samsung Hauzen air condition system and took some rests comfortably.

One of the famous running event held in Korea is Seoul International Marathon.

It have been organized by Donga-Ilbo, one of the popular general dailies, but the race title is not Donga Marathon.

Because of the race is the only race to utilize Seoul main roads including Gwanghwamun.

So, the race title proudly include the word; Seoul.

From this year, the race will be operated as gold label road race proved by IAAF so, I expect its fame will be reinforced.

Unfortunately my post is late because of my laziness.

The registration of the race was already closed, but I still want to introduce the race to you.

As you guessed, I recommend you just join the race as one of spectators.

You can easily move the race course by subways.

That means you can be the witness the explosion of about 30,000 runners at the start line and cheer up your friend at the finish line.

Originally people tend to hate the road races held in Seoul.

Because of the road races need traffic control that can take away their freedom of movement on Sunday.

Fortunately a lot of Seoul citizens are generous to the Seoul International Marathon.

The race recalls the sweet memory; the victory of Lee, Bong-joo.

<Lee, Bong-joo won the 2007 Seoul International Marathon.

His victory was not expected too much because of he was 37 years old>

Maybe you prefer fun run, the race is not for you.

The race has an only one division; Full-course.

If one foreign visitor asks to me, “What is your favorite road race in Korea?”

My answer is Chosun-Ilbo Chuncheon Marathon.

<You can enjoy beautiful maples, lake and crystal clear sky at once in Chuncheon

The race day is the end of October.>

But, the race venue is limited in Seoul, my answer is Seoul International Marathon.

This year’s race day is 21th Mar. 2010. Please check the race venue or just remember the race needs traffic controls at the race day!

One more thing

I want to make up for my laziness to you!

If you have been looking for upcoming running event,

‘adidas MBC Hangang Marathon 2010’ is not bad.

Even though the race course is not perfect and the assemble area is not in Seoul,

but the race has various course including 10k.

You can still join the event! The race day is 25th April, 2010.

Under Pressure

No comments

All Korean wait the gold medal from Kim Yu-na. Especially her sponsors really do; such as Nike Korea, Samsung Eletronic, Tour jour, Homeplus, Lacvert and etc.
I can’t imagine how does she endure a pressure from the gold medal.
She say she prepared to adopt the result whatever will be on New York Times interview. I also wish we would say “That’s OK.”

There are a few cautions for all Korean Football National Team matches that are operated by KFA.

It is not a big deal but, I think it will be useful for spectators who never have been to the football stadium in Korea.

First of all, Prohibit carry all kinds of liquid: especially all beverages bottles, cans that can be throw in the stadium easily.

Every spectator will have a security check including your bag or baggage at all stadium entrances by staff

so, I highly recommend consuming your beverages in advance.

There are convenience stores in the stadium so, you can purchase some beverages including beer contained in disposable cup.

Foods except beverages will be allowed to carry in the stadium.

Secondly, I recommend general spectators to use public transportations.

I assume that you are going to Sangam World Cup Stadium, the most often venue for Korean Football National Team matches.

If you have VIPs ticket with parking permission card, you can consider ride your own vehicle.

Sangam World Cup Stadium parking lots is not enough for spectators.

Because of users of other facilities such as discount stores, multiplex, fitness center, sauna and wedding hall also use parking lots together.

At last, I recommend you to pack some blankets or jackets because of Sangam World Cup stadium doesn’t have a ceiling.

Enjoy your games!

Machine VS Human

No comments

I went to the theater to watch ‘The Wolfman’. Accidently I saw that the situation around the numbering machine was in a mess.
(I think the machine is almost installed everywhere people must be lined up such as a bank, theater and etc.)

Audiences tried to pick a number and found the machine was out of function. So they became a little confused and upset, but any staff couldn’t find the reason.

At first, all staff was very busy to handle their own works. Their positions were too far to check the machine.

Secondly, any audiences didn’t tell staff, “The numbering machine is out of order!”
(Audiences can be lined up without numbering machine)

Finally, one staff came from the desk and found the machine was wrong.

All machines sometimes need to be fixed. The only human being can check and fix them.

I think this simple logic works well for new technologies.

We keep checking and fixing that!

Just pushing the start button, it would not be good enough to achieve the goal!

In these days, the one of controversial topic in Korea is ‘Universal Access Right’.

Because of 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics was exclusively broadcasted by SBS which is one of 3 major terrestrial TV stations. (Others are KBS and MBC)

The original purpose of ‘Universal Access Right’ is to provide free viewing opportunities about popular sports events to the public.

I think the most well known example is The United Kingdom’s case. UK set a detail sports events lists adapted ‘Universal Access Right’ in two categories.

Further, UK has observes rapid change of media environments and consider to revise their legal statement,

Legally, there’s no problem with SBS. Although Korea Communications Commission (KCC) can try to arbitrate in a dispute but, it is not a big deal to SBS.

From spectators’ point of view, if I could watch popular sports events through free-to-air TV, I didn’t care that any terrestrial TV station has the broadcasting rights.

Also there are some proper functions of ‘Universal Access Right’ in Korea.

The one is to prevent overlapping broadcasts for spectators and another is excessive competitions among TV stations.

But, I worry about two thing related the issue.

First of all, huge sports events such as a Summer Olympics Games need unexpected equipment and staff. Take an example, if Korean sprinter’s 100m final and Korea National Football Team’s semi final were held in separate venues, maybe equipment and staff from one TV station is not enough for broadcasting. That means sometimes TV stations work together for better broadcasting to satisfy with spectators.

Secondly, normally Korea National Assembly and other committees were lazy. Almost politicians spent half of a year to fight for own party side. Everyday, environments around media change so quickly but, I am not sure that our politicians recognize changes and adopt to establish or revise legal statements.

I just wish I keep watching my favorite sports matches!

(P.S. Korea National Football Team friendly match against Ivory Coast in March 3, 2010 will be televised by KBS 1 TV)
